SGA Visits Hamden Neighborhoods!

On Sunday November 17th, members from our SGA launched the Good Neighbor Campaign in local Hamden neighborhoods. We went door to door to talk to QU students and Hamden residents in areas with large student populations. Our goal was to introduce our Good Neighbor Campaign, encourage conversation, and collect any concerns that residents may have. We want to assist in the development of positive relationships and open lines of communication. NBC Connecticut and Eyewitness News Channel 3 joined our members to cover our efforts.

Overall, we received positive feedback from Hamden residents and only a few complaints. Moving forward, we plan to visit more neighborhoods, increase the distribution of our informational door hangers, and connect with Hamden government officials and boards. We want to be the best neighbor possible in the Hamden community and will explore any efforts that support our mission.

Bobcat of the Month

Bobcat of the Month is SGA’s new campaign designed to recognize students that are actively involved on campus and go above and beyond the daily student routine. These students embody the Bobcat Spirit and truly “Live the Legend“. Each month we plan to highlight one area of campus, these areas include:

       (1) Involvement – “The Busiest Bobcat”

(2) Academics – “The Brainiest Bobcat”

(3) Diversity/Awareness – “The Boldest Bobcat”

(4) School Spirit – The Bobcat with the “Loudest Roar”

Please nominate the student who you believe should be SGA’s Bobcat of the Month!

Good Neighbor Campaign

Good Neighbor

SGA is rolling out a new campaign: THE GOOD NEIGHBOR CAMPAIGN!

Our goal is to build and strengthen a relationship between Quinnipiac students and local Hamden residents. We are committed to working with our neighbors and creating an open line of communication to foster positive community relations.

To promote a healthy environment and be a great neighbor, it is essential to introduce yourself. As Quinnipiac’s Student Government Association, we’re here to assist with facilitating the building of positive relationships in any way we can.

SGA Fall Retreat at Camp Jewell

The Student Government Association

After the new candidates were elected, the entire Student Government Association spent the weekend away at our annual Fall Retreat! This weekend consists of training sessions and various activities to strength the bonds of our members. We usually spend the entire weekend at Camp Jewell YMCA in Colebrook, CT. This year our Executive Board decided to change up the scenery and hold the first day of retreat at our North Haven campus! Our Executive Board members gave various presentations on proper SGA etiquette, how to effectively tackle initiatives, how to program with essential learning outcomes, and the financial policy. Professor of Management, Frank Bellizzi, taught a session on working in teams and the importance of active listening. His activities greatly inspired our members for the upcoming year!

Later that night, we arrived at the Camp Jewell facility! Our new members were placed on committees and given mentors. Throughout the weekend, we participated in several team building activities including ice breakers, high ropes courses, and communication exercises. Overall, the weekend was highly educational and enjoyed by all!

NACA Student Government West Institute

Each year, our Executive Board members attend a conference before the school year starts. This summer, we attended NACA’s Student Government West Institute at Colorado School of the Mines. It was a great experience! We attended various workshops that provided us with many new ideas! We met a diverse group of SGAs from all over the country. It was great to discuss our issues and bounce ideas off of each other! We truly learned a lot and cannot thank NACA enough for such an amazing conference!

SGA Election Results

Current and Incoming Presidents Ben Cloutier and Matt Desilets

Below is a press release regarding the 2013 SGA elections from the current Student Body President Benjamin Cloutier:

Quinnipiac undergraduates made their presence and their opinions known on April 10, 2013 as they chose their class leaders in the university’s Student Government Association (SGA) elections by voting for the second time on the Quinnipiac CollegiateLink system.

With nearly one third of the undergraduate population casting their ballots, the students chose who will be representing them for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Over forty students vied for the thirty one coveted positions on Student Government. Those who lost their respective races were offered the opportunity to become involved in the organization as non voting members.

Student Body President and Chair of the Election Committee, Benjamin Cloutier, commented on the election, “A heartfelt congratulations are due to all of the candidates who competed in this year’s Spring Election. Each of the candidates put forth a tremendous amount of effort towards their respective races, and I’m proud to see so many of my peers excited and enthusiastic about affecting positive change on our campus. I’m confident in this year’s class of SGA members to continue the traditions of hard work and dedication towards the betterment of this community.”

The organization would like to thank all who came out and participated in the election. SGA encourages all students to find what they enjoy being involved in on campus while they are at Quinnipiac University.  For complete coverage check out, the Quinnipiac Chronicle, QUAD News, or follow us on Twitter @QUSGA.
